A nice First Edition set of these very scarce books containing a wide variety of the writings by and about Samuel Johnson. These two thick books contain several pieces not othewise easily available. They are high quality books, with almost no wear and in excellent condition. Published more than 110 years ago, these book are now rare and osught-after, usually selling for between $120 and $200. These books are in excellent condition and they should be more valuable. Such a nice set of these books is not likely to come up for sale again soon on ebay. From the Preface of 1st vol.: In the Preface to the Letters of Samuel Johnson I spoke of the hope I entertained that I should live to complete the main work of my life as a scholar by a new edition of the Lives of the Poets. I have been turned away from my purpose, at least for a time, by a letter which I received from Mr. Leslie Stephen. He asked me to edit all those writings which have long been included under the general title of Johnsoniana. The task that he proposed seemed pleasant in itself.
