This boook surveys Braque s entire oeuvre including paintings from every period, complemented by a number of drawings and sculptures. Jean Leymarie, former director of the Musee National d Art Moderne, Paris, was a personal friend of the artist and his essay traces Braque s path to perfection . Art historians Carla Schulz-Hoffmann and Magdalena M. Moeller discuss the Cubist and post-Cubist periods respectively.
With its major essays and documentation in the form of a chronology, list of exhibitions and bibliography, this volume is an invaluable contribution to the literature on this central figure of twentieth century art.
